In term 2 our class was looking at kelp forests and we each had to pick an animal. Kirubiru and I picked a harbour seal. Harbour seals are mammals and  Pinnipeds. Pinniped means winged foot. They are the most common seal in a kelp forest. The Adults are usually bluey-grey but sometimes tan (brown). the pups are always tan.  Harbour seals often haul out on rocks and beaches. They have been seen in New York and Boston harbours. Harbour seals can stay under water for 25minutes because their heartbeat slows to 15 beats per minute. They can sleep a whole night in a kelp forest because their heartbeat slows to 1 beat per minute. So they don’t use that much oxygen. They can live roughly about 25-30 years. Their main predator is a Killer Whale but they are also hunted by Polar Bears, Eagles, Walruses and Steller sea lions. Harbour seals eat fish, Crustaceans and Mollusks.

I chose the Garibaldi because it seemed like it would have a lot of amazing facts and secrets behind it. Which it did!!

The 3/4s  have been studying marine life and environments. We had to do a report on a sea animal in our classes marine habitat. When we made the poster and report we started a podcast. Our animal we chose was a bat ray because we wanted to do something interesting.

Kathy Helidoniotis is an author of a series of books about a girl who is mad about horses. Kathy started riding horses at the age of 6. Her room was stuffed full with pictures and books about horses and ponies and her clock was a horse without a head. When she was ten she got a cheeky and naughty horse called Clarrie. After a while she got a horse called Georgia. She was an Appaloosa and was a great western horse. She is now a writer but still loves horses. Her books are really good. I enjoyed them so much I started collecting her other books in the series. I have probably read all the books out so far 3 times over and over again. I suggest you read them. Harbor-Seals News Report

Brothers Jeff and David and their kooky cousin Claire [and their dogs] are a great team when it comes to solving mysteries in their small mountain town.

The Blizzard On Blue Mountain is the fifth book in the Cabin Creek Mysteries series and this time around, its winter break and the cousins are working at the ski chalet on Blue Mountain when odd things go missing. They are hot on the trail of the culprit when a blizzard hits and they get stranded alone in the chalet.

What I love most about the series is that the cousins always work together and while they may not always agree on the best route to solving their mysteries, Gregory respects her characters enough to not let them fall into the insults and potty talk that has invaded so many reader books today.

I think that they are good books for boys and girls who love mysteries. Kristiana Gregory’s books are my favourite and she better start writing faster because I have finished all of the series so far.
